Breaking News: Washington Commanders’ Head Coach Dan Quinn Acquires 32-Year-Old Cowboys Wide Receiver
Since becoming head coach of the Washington Commanders, Dan Quinn has made numerous free-agent signings, drawing from his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. This trend began with the signing of defensive lineman Dorrance Armstrong on a $22 million, three-year contract.
Quinn followed up by bringing in center Tyler Biadasz with a $9.75 million annual salary and a $20 million guarantee. Additionally, edge rusher Dante Fowler and cornerback/special teamer Noah Igbinoghene joined the roster. It’s clear Quinn is intent on adding familiar faces from the Cowboys, with his latest target being former wide receiver Martavis Bryant.
How Bryant Would Contribute to the Washington Commanders
Bryant, a fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014, showed early promise but faced a suspension for the 2016 season due to a substance abuse policy violation. Reinstated in 2017, he recorded 50 receptions for 603 yards and three touchdowns.
Traded to the then-Oakland Raiders in 2018, Bryant was released before the season started due to another substance abuse violation, then re-signed, finishing the season with 19 receptions for 266 yards in eight games. His talent as a receiver is evident, but his suspensions have marred his career.
After a hiatus from football, Bryant joined the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 2021 but was suspended for missing training camp. He then bounced between teams and leagues before landing on the Cowboys’ practice squad in November last year. Released in January to make room for La’el Collins, Bryant re-signed with the Cowboys on a futures deal.
Despite not playing in an NFL game since 2018, Bryant worked out with Quinn on May 15th. Quinn evidently sees potential in Bryant, and while it’s uncertain if he will join the Commanders’ already strong roster, the 32-year-old veteran seems determined to make a comeback.
