REPORT: Jaguars Sign Former First-Round Pick Amid Safety Shakeup

The Jacksonville Jaguars released their starting safety, Rayshawn Jenkins, this offseason and plan to replace him with Antonio Johnson, despite signing Darnell Savage. The team intends to use Savage in the slot, even though he has predominantly played as a safety throughout his career.

Beyond Johnson, Andre Cisco, and Andrew Wingard, the Jaguars’ safety depth is largely inexperienced, with most of those players contributing primarily on special teams.

To bolster their depth after the draft, the Jaguars signed former first-round pick Terrell Edmunds. The specifics of his contract, such as salary and length, have not been disclosed.

Terrell Edmunds

Edmunds will be joining his fourth team in seven years, having played 95 games and started 79. His career stats include 458 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, six interceptions, 28 pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

Last season, Edmunds began with the Philadelphia Eagles, signing a 1-year, $2 million contract. He played in seven games, starting three, and recorded 28 tackles and one forced fumble before being traded to the Tennessee Titans at the NFL Trade Deadline. With the Titans, he played nine games, starting once, and added 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and two pass deflections. He finished the season with a total of 48 tackles, two tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, two pass deflections, one forced fumble, and a 63.0 PFF grade.

Edmunds will now compete for a roster spot with the Jaguars, facing off against players like Andrew Wingard, Daniel Thomas, Erick Hallett, and Josh Proctor, assuming Andre Cisco and Antonio Johnson are the starters.
