NFL Community Responds to Sudden Retirement of Saints’ Pro Bowl Running Back.

Former star running back David Johnson announced his retirement from football on social media Sunday. In his post, he reflected on his career, thanked fans and teammates for their support and dedication, and expressed that he will miss the professional football lifestyle.

“I would not have been able to achieve any of this without God’s good grace! He made it possible for a kid with little to have the opportunity to do what most can’t. I’m excited to see what my next career path will be. I don’t know exactly what it will entail, but I hope it brings me the same passion, excitement, and love that football did.”

Johnson spent the first five years of his career with the Cardinals, followed by two years with the Houston Texans, and concluded his career with the Saints. Throughout his career, the running back amassed 4,071 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns, along with 2,805 receiving yards and 18 touchdown catches. His best season was in 2016, when he recorded 2,118 yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns.

Fans hold great respect and understanding for the former star running back, who was among the league’s best in the early stages of his career but unfortunately could not maintain his momentum due to several injuries. What is your favorite moment from Johnson’s career, and do you think he is making the right decision to retire?
