Malik Nabers Displeased with Giants’ New Throwback Jerseys

Malik Nabers, the LSU wide receiver chosen by the Giants as the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, shared his thoughts on the team’s recently revealed “Century Red” throwback uniforms, introduced last Thursday to mark the franchise’s 100th season.

Expressing his sentiments to Sports Illustrated at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere, Nabers indicated his reservations about styling the new attire. “It’s gonna be hard to swag it out, that’s all I got to say about it,” he remarked.

When questioned on how he plans to enhance the look, Nabers admitted uncertainty, stating, “I don’t know. I’ma have to see when I put it on.”

The uniform, permissible for the Giants to wear twice during the 2024 NFL season, pays tribute to the team’s 1933 jersey, 1938 helmet, and 1925 pants and socks. Featuring a red jersey with a blue midsection, white bordering stripes, and white numbers, complemented by tan pants and red socks with blue and white stripes, it revives the winged blue and red helmet worn from 1937-47.

In acknowledgment of the franchise’s centenary, all Giants’ jerseys this season will bear a “100 seasons” patch on the front.

While Nabers joins the Giants amid high expectations of bolstering the offense, the team’s decision to forgo selecting a quarterback in the first round suggests their commitment to Daniel Jones, currently recovering from a torn ACL and facing scrutiny regarding his franchise quarterback status.

Signing a four-year, $29.2 million contract with an $18.1 million signing bonus, the 20-year-old receiver reflected on his journey during the Giants’ rookie minicamp earlier this month. “When I put my name on that paper I was kind of shaking a little bit and I got emotional,” Nabers shared. “The job’s not done but another stage in my life was done. For me to make it to this part of my life and my journey, it was a pat on my back in that moment.”
