Vikings Reach Decision on $32 Million Free-Agent Wide Receiver Before Training Camp

Hunter Renfrow remains a potential target for the Minnesota Vikings to strengthen their wide receiver group, but they are currently not looking beyond their existing roster.

According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, despite the need for a No. 3 receiver following K.J. Osborn’s move to the New England Patriots in March, the Vikings are focusing on their internal options.

Seifert reported on May 23 that the Vikings have only made modest moves in the free agent market, signing journeyman Trent Sherfield with $1 million fully guaranteed. Although ESPN’s Bill Barnwell suggested the Vikings should consider signing free agent slot receiver Hunter Renfrow, indications at the start of OTAs suggest the team wants to evaluate their internal candidates first.

Renfrow, 28, was released by the Las Vegas Raiders in March after a two-year, $32 million extension following his 2021 Pro Bowl season, where he recorded 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. His performance declined due to injuries and changes in quarterbacks and coaching. Despite being a top free agent, the Vikings seem unlikely to pursue external options for the No. 3 receiver role until they have assessed their current roster.
