Ben Johnson Explains Decision to Stay with Lions.
The Detroit Lions are coming off what may be their best season in franchise history, with Jared Goff and his team defying expectations to reach the NFC Championship Game.
Despite having a lead at halftime, the Lions ultimately fell to the San Francisco 49ers after a difficult second half, ending their remarkable season in disappointment.
As the NFL offseason began, it seemed certain that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would leave to become a head coach elsewhere. He had become a highly sought-after candidate across the league.
However, Johnson surprised everyone by deciding to stay with Dan Campbell’s coaching staff in Detroit for at least another season.
Recently, Johnson shared his reasons for staying with the Lions instead of pursuing a head coaching position elsewhere, as reported by Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit.
“I want the sunshine a little longer,” Johnson said.

Clearly, Johnson is content with his situation in Detroit under Campbell and feels there’s unfinished business as they move forward. The Lions are anticipated to be one of the top teams in the NFC for the 2024 NFL season.
While the Lions are expected to return stronger for the 2024 campaign, the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers could also be formidable opponents, adding intrigue to the conference dynamics.
