A New York Jets veteran seems to be developing a strong connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, experienced tight end Tyler Conklin showcased impressive performance during practice this week.
“Everyone’s talking about Garrett Wilson, which is understandable, but Conklin really built some remarkable chemistry with Aaron Rodgers last year. It was disappointing that we didn’t get to witness it on the field due to Rodgers’ injury. But now that Rodgers is back and Conklin stayed put, it seems like that chemistry has picked up right where they left off. I believe Conklin could have a standout season ahead and possibly secure another contract with the Jets,” Hughes mentioned to Jeane Coakley.
Conklin, who is 28 years old, is entering the final year of his $20.25 million contract.
The Jets have found Conklin to be a valuable asset, considering his 119 receptions for 1,173 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in the past two years. These numbers become even more impressive when considering the inconsistent quarterback situation Conklin has faced.
Heading into the 2024 season with Rodgers as his QB1, Conklin’s contract year presents an opportunity to achieve career-best numbers. This could potentially lead to a lucrative deal in his upcoming unrestricted free agency in 2025.
Furthermore, Conklin’s consistent availability cannot be overlooked. He has appeared in all 34 possible games from 2022 through 2023.
Gennaro Filice of the NFL Media Group recently highlighted Conklin as the most “underappreciated” player on the Jets roster.
“Conklin has been a solid investment for Joe Douglas, particularly given the various quarterbacks who’ve targeted him. With Aaron Rodgers leading the offense in 2024, Conklin is poised for success in a contract year. It’s an opportunity for Conklin to prove his worth, especially after the attention surrounding tight end Brock Bowers,” Filice noted.
Conklin’s journey with the Jets has been marked by being undervalued, but 2024 presents a prime chance for him to make a significant impact and reshape perceptions.
