We all want J.J. Watt to come back. It’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t want to see him have one last hurrah with the Texans. His departure a few years ago was a misstep, and his stint with the Arizona Cardinals showed he was still a top player. It just felt wrong seeing him in another team’s colors.
Bringing him home is essential. Watt is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and still beloved by the fans. He’s the greatest player in franchise history, even though he wasn’t initially a popular draft pick. His return to a playoff-contending team would make the season unforgettable.
If Watt doesn’t return, it won’t detract from the season—the team is strong, the excitement is palpable, and fans are fully engaged. However, hopes have been repeatedly raised. First, it was speculation about Watt, then about the Texans’ head coach and Watt’s former teammate, DeMeco Ryans, and now even the general manager is chiming in.
Speaking to “Up & Adams” on Thursday (via CBS Sports), Texans’ general manager Nick Caserio didn’t rule out Watt’s return in 2024, stating:
“I think J.J.’s got enough going on right now. Once the season starts, I think that’s when the competitive juices get going. DeMeco has an open-door policy for J.J., so we’ll see how it goes.”
While the team doesn’t urgently need Watt, as their primary need is a defensive tackle, his presence would still be a significant morale booster. Watt could potentially transition to defensive tackle and provide much-needed support, but this seems unlikely.
Even though the team doesn’t need Watt, we still want him back for one more run. If he’s not coming back, the Texans should stop teasing the fans. His absence won’t harm the team, but his presence would add immense hope and joy to an already optimistic fan base.
The constant teasing about his potential return might dampen the fans’ enthusiasm. So, the Texans should either bring him back or end the speculation.
