PFF Rankings: DeForest Buckner Among NFL’s Elite Interior Defenders for 2024 Season!

Since joining the Indianapolis Colts, DeForest Buckner has emerged as one of the premier players in his position within the AFC, according to Pro Football Focus’ recent rankings of top interior defenders for the upcoming 2024 season. Buckner secured the sixth spot on the list, closely trailing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Cameron Heyward.

The Colts’ decision to award Buckner with a lucrative two-year, $46 million contract extension in April underscores his immense value to the team. Acquired via trade from the San Francisco 49ers before the 2020 season, Buckner has consistently anchored the Colts’ defensive line, appearing in all 17 games in each of the last three seasons.

Throughout his tenure with the Colts, Buckner has showcased his prowess with impressive statistics, including eight sacks in two of the past three seasons, alongside a combined tally of 155 tackles, 22 tackles-for-loss, and 43 quarterback hits. Despite being 30 years old, Buckner continues to excel, amassing 32.5 sacks during his time in Indianapolis. Pro Football Focus highlights his consistent performance, with over 50 pressures in each of the last two seasons and 90 defensive stops over the same period.

As the Colts aim for continued defensive excellence, Buckner remains a linchpin in their plans. In the record-breaking 2023 season, where the Colts amassed 51 sacks, Buckner played a pivotal role in the defensive line’s dominance. Looking ahead to 2024, Buckner and the Colts’ defense are poised to build upon their successes, aiming to maintain their status among the NFL’s premier pass-rushing units.
