COMMIT: Illinois secures three-star Indiana wide receiver Davion Chandler

Illinois Football Kicks Off Summer 2024 with Two Major Commitments

Illinois Football began their summer of 2024 with a flurry of impressive recruits visiting their campus. This strategy, a staple for Bret Bielema and his team, aims to make a strong early impression as summer starts. Typically, they also invite one or two current commits from the class of 2025 to help with recruiting efforts and to create a welcoming environment for new prospects. Unsurprisingly, Illinois Football concluded the weekend on a high note by securing two commitments before the weekend was over: Davion Chandler and Cameron Brooks.

WR Davion Chandler
Davion Chandler, a three-star wide receiver from Indianapolis, had offers from Indiana, Kansas, and Wisconsin. He is the second wide receiver commitment for the class of 2025, joining Brayden Trimble. Coach Justin Stepp, known for mentoring notable players in the past, has brought his dynamic energy to the Illinois Football staff, playing a key role in Chandler’s commitment, which was the first of the weekend.

 DL Cameron Brooks
Cameron Brooks is the latest player to commit to Illinois Football, choosing the Illini over offers from Kansas, Cincinnati, and Kansas State. Defensive Line coach Terrance Jamison has been increasingly successful in securing commitments from top-tier recruits, and Brooks represents a significant in-state acquisition. With the upcoming graduations of Seth Coleman and Gabe Jacas, the Illini’s defensive line will need reinforcements. Brooks is a strong addition to a group that already includes Demetrius John and Angelo McCullom.
