Dolphins Secure Offensive Tackle Patrick Paul with Rookie Contract

While news broke Monday night of the Miami Dolphins securing safety Marcus Maye, the team’s general manager, Chris Grier, didn’t rest on his laurels. On Tuesday afternoon, the Dolphins announced the signing of their second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, offensive tackle Patrick Paul, to his rookie contract.

Paul, the 55th overall selection, comes to Miami following a robust five-year college career at the University of Houston. Standing at an imposing 6’7″, Paul’s physical presence makes him a natural fit for the NFL’s offensive tackle position. Despite his size and potential, many draft analysts noted that his technique requires significant refinement, even though he allowed just one quarterback sack in 469 opportunities during his final season at Houston.

In an effort to fine-tune his skills, Paul has dedicated this offseason to learning from Duke Manyweather, a renowned offensive line specialist. Manyweather has previously worked with current Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead, providing Paul with a direct link to seasoned professional advice.

Reflecting on his early days with the Dolphins, Paul shared some of the guidance he has received from Armstead:

“One of the things he told me that I can relate to is the small victories every day. Win your set. Don’t just try to get it all done in one day. Just stack days and improve 1 percent each day.”

With Paul’s signing, the Dolphins have only one remaining unsigned player from their 2024 rookie class: their first-round pick, EDGE rusher Chop Robinson from Penn State. As the team continues to build and refine its roster, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how these new additions contribute to the Dolphins’ quest for success in the upcoming season.
