Anthony Richardson Leads Colts Offense Through Successful Offseason, Ready to Dominate Training Camp
The Colts’ offense didn’t leave OTAs with a new POS system, but after weeks of springtime practice, they’re feeling optimistic about the groundwork they’ve laid ahead of training camp in July.
“We deliberately put the offense in challenging situations over the past few days and weeks of the offseason to test our capabilities, like a stress test for fans of ‘Bar Rescue,'” explained offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, borrowing a tactic from the TV show without the theatrics. “Our players have stepped up. Anthony (Richardson) has been leading them.”
The deliberate push from Cooter and head coach Shane Steichen to push Richardson and the offense reflects the advantage of having continuity not just within the roster but also among the coaching staff. Center Ryan Kelly noted Richardson’s adept handling of the stress test, attributing it to the cohesion among the team.
“This time of year allows for experimentation without consequences, and Anthony has handled that exceptionally well – as has the entire offense,” Kelly remarked. “That’s the benefit of having most of the guys return year after year.”
Despite Richardson missing the Colts’ final offseason practice due to a sore shoulder, he feels the offense has made significant progress in May and June, progress that will pay dividends as they gear up for the 2024 season at Grand Park in Westfield next month.
“Compared to last year at this time, we’re in a much better place,” Richardson reflected. “I’m grateful for the challenges they’ve thrown at us. It’s only going to make us stronger.”
