Bills QB Josh Allen Unveils Strategy to Bounce Back from Career-High Turnover Season

Josh Allen, quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, typically uses the offseason to recharge and refine his game. This year, however, he’s adopting a more sophisticated approach.

Allen recently shared with reporters that he’s been focused on correcting his throwing mechanics following an early-season injury in 2023 that necessitated adjustments. Admitting the need for improvements after a career-high 18 interceptions, Allen collaborated with a sports science firm to enhance the efficiency of his throwing motion.

“I dove deep into my game film this offseason and identified several aspects of my altered throwing motion that I wasn’t satisfied with,” Allen explained to Sal Maiorana of the Democrat & Chronicle. Employing digital mapping technology alongside Biometrek, a California-based sports science company, Allen underwent analysis using high-speed cameras to scrutinize every facet of his delivery.

While not a complete overhaul, Allen emphasized that these adjustments will enhance his accuracy and efficiency in the upcoming season.

“I wouldn’t call it a complete overhaul of my throwing motion, but definitely some things to work on and clean up,” Allen noted. Drawing an analogy to golf swings, he expressed confidence that consistent practice and trust in the adjustments would yield positive results.

Allen maintained a realistic perspective, acknowledging that every quarterback can benefit from refining their mechanics during the offseason.

“I think there’s inefficiencies that every quarterback can find,” Allen remarked. “You show me the perfect throw, I’ll tell you something wrong with it probably.”

Despite a mixed 2023 season marked by career-high interceptions and league-leading total touchdowns, Allen finished strongly, guiding the Bills to five consecutive victories to clinch the division title in the final game.

Heading into 2024, the Bills face offensive changes following the departures of top receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. They’ve bolstered their roster with veterans like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Curtis Samuel, and Chase Claypool, in addition to drafting rookie Keon Coleman.

Josh Allen’s ongoing evolution reflects his commitment to refining his game, balancing recovery from injuries with continual improvement.
