Trevor Lawrence is getting paid in a big way.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have reached an agreement with their star quarterback on a five-year contract extension worth $275 million, breaking down to an impressive $55 million per season. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the deal includes a total of $200 million guaranteed, with $142 million of that fully guaranteed.
Back in January, Jaguars GM Trent Baalke expressed uncertainty about whether Lawrence’s extension would come this offseason or the next. However, the sides decided to finalize the deal this year, aligning with hints Lawrence gave earlier this month.
Selected as the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, Lawrence has shown substantial growth and promise. The Jaguars recorded a 9-8 season with Lawrence at the helm in 2022 and went 8-8 last season. In 2023, Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, while also contributing 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Entering the fourth season of his rookie deal, Lawrence was set to earn $5.4 million in 2024. The team had already exercised his $25.6 million option for 2025 before agreeing to this lucrative extension.
This significant investment underscores the Jaguars’ confidence in Lawrence as the cornerstone of their franchise. With this extension, Jacksonville aims to build a competitive team around their young quarterback, hoping to achieve sustained success in the coming years.
