Touchdown for Compassion as Notre Dame Football Duo Earns Medical Scholarships, Embracing New Beginnings

Two top defensive line commits for Notre Dame football in 2022 have simultaneously ended their careers with the team.

Aiden Gobara and Tyson Ford, both affected by injuries, will not be transferring out but are transitioning to Medical Scholarships, marking the conclusion of their playing days at South Bend. They will remain enrolled at the university to pursue their education.

Gobara, hailing from Virginia, redshirted his freshman year and suffered an ACL tear in August prior to his second season, halting his anticipated progression under defensive coordinator Al Golden. Despite his setbacks, he was regarded highly during recruitment, choosing Notre Dame over 16 other collegiate programs.

Meanwhile, Ford, a former four-star recruit from St. Louis, took a break from the team during the spring, indicating a need for reflection and decision-making regarding his football future. He played in two games during his tenure at Notre Dame, both in 2023.

The university did not specify the exact reasons behind these transitions, but it is clear that both players have been managing lingering injuries for some time.
