Breaking News: LSU Secures Commitment from 5-Star WR in Major Recruitment Victory
Derek Meadows, a five-star wide receiver from the Class of 2025, committed to LSU on Saturday. Meadows’ decision marks the Tigers’ second five-star commitment in just four days, following cornerback DJ Pickett’s pledge to head coach Brian Kelly’s program on Wednesday.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Meadows chose LSU over Notre Dame—previously considered the frontrunner—as well as Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan. Despite visiting all five schools, Meadows noted that his experience with LSU was unmatched.
“The coaches treat everyone like family, and I want to be in that environment,” Meadows told 247Sports. “Playing in the SEC means a lot to me, and I’m committed to competing against the best.”
Ranked as the No. 10 receiver and No. 68 overall prospect by the 247Sports composite, Meadows had an impressive sophomore season in 2023. He recorded 15 receptions for 391 yards and eight touchdowns, contributing to Bishop Gorman High School’s Nevada 5A state championship.
Meadows is also a standout track athlete, having been named Nevada’s Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year in 2023 for his achievements in the 300 meters, 110m hurdles, and as a member of a gold medal-winning 4×400 relay team.
With Meadows’ commitment, LSU now boasts three five-star recruits from the Class of 2025, joining Pickett and top-ranked quarterback Bryce Underwood.
