“Colts Running Back Abruptly Calls It Quits, Leaving NFL and Fans in Shock”
Veteran running back Kenyan Drake, who had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts, has announced his retirement from the NFL, according to NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport.
Drake started his NFL journey when the Miami Dolphins drafted him in the third round (73rd overall) out of Alabama in the 2016 draft. While he never became a true starter for the Dolphins, he provided solid depth and contributed to the offense’s progress. After his time with Miami and the Arizona Cardinals in 2019, Drake had his best season in 2020.
In 2020, Drake recorded 955 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the Cardinals. However, he soon found himself moving between teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders (2021), Baltimore Ravens (2022-2023), and Green Bay Packers (2023).
Drake’s tenure with the Colts in 2023 was brief. Some thought he could play a significant role in Shane Steichen’s offense, especially with uncertainty surrounding Jonathan Taylor’s future at the time. However, Drake did not make the roster and ended 2023 with the Ravens and Packers.
Throughout his eight-season career, Drake played in 104 games, amassing 869 carries for 3,866 rushing yards (4.4 yards per carry) and 33 rushing touchdowns. He also made an impact as a receiver, with 218 catches for 1,655 yards and eight touchdowns.
