Breaking News: Heartbreak for the Chiefs: Another Defender Sidelined by Training Camp Injury
The Kansas City Chiefs have faced some unfortunate injury setbacks during training camp. As two-time defending Super Bowl champions, they’ve had a few players sidelined on both offense and defense.
On the defensive side, the Chiefs are still missing starting safety Justin Reid, who is dealing with a quad injury that could jeopardize his availability for the regular season. Additionally, linebacker Nic Bolton narrowly avoided a serious elbow injury this week and is expected to recover.
Unfortunately, veteran defensive back Deon Bush wasn’t as fortunate. As reported by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, the Chiefs announced that Bush missed Thursday’s training camp practice due to an ankle injury.
Chiefs Update: Safety Deon Bush Sidelined from Thursday’s Practice
The Chiefs are hoping that Bush’s injury is minor and limited to Thursday, especially as they are already without Reid. Kansas City re-signed Bush in the offseason on a one-year contract.
Last season, the 30-year-old defensive back appeared in only seven games, spending most of the year on the practice squad. However, in 2022, Bush was a key contributor on special teams for the Chiefs.

The 6-foot safety recorded 11 combined tackles, a pass deflection, and participated in 73 percent of special teams snaps. Bush is entering his third season with the Chiefs, after spending the earlier part of his career with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
With Reid’s availability for Week 1 uncertain, the Chiefs might rely on Bush and rookie Jaden Hicks to step up during the preseason.
