Former NFL wide receiver Tavon Austin officially announced his retirement on Tuesday through an Instagram post. The former first-round draft pick spent nine seasons in the league, including one season with the Green Bay Packers.

Tavon Austin joined the Packers in December 2020 after being released by the San Francisco 49ers in October of the same year. Prior to his time with the 49ers, Austin spent two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
During his brief stint with Green Bay, Austin appeared in four games, recording five receptions for 20 yards on five targets. He also contributed on special teams. However, Austin’s time with the Packers was short-lived as he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in August 2021, where he played in 13 games, including three starts.
Following his time in Jacksonville, Austin signed with the Buffalo Bills in June 2022 but was later released from their practice squad. In 2023, reports surfaced that Austin had worked out for the Seattle Seahawks.
While his tenure in Green Bay was unremarkable, many fans remember Austin for his time with the St. Louis Rams following a standout collegiate career at West Virginia University. The 5-foot-8 wide receiver was selected eighth overall by the Rams and spent four seasons with the St. Louis/Los Angeles franchise.
Although he didn’t fully meet the high expectations set for him after his electrifying college career, Austin still managed to make an impact and contribute at the highest level, which is no small feat for a wide receiver.
