Breaking News: Giants Beat Reporter Eases Concerns After RB Signing.

https://967sports.com/?p=29884&preview=trueOn August 15, New York Giants team reporter Dan Salomone revealed the signing of former Los Angeles Chargers fourth-round pick Joshua Kelley, a notable addition to the roster. Giants fans need not worry, however, as this move does not indicate any injury issues for rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.

When a Giants fan questioned whether this signing suggested Tracy might soon be placed on IR, The Athletic’s NYG beat reporter Dan Duggan clarified that this is not the case.

Duggan quickly addressed concerns from his followers, stating, “No, Tracy is suited up for practice. It doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury. With Tracy and Dante Miller (hamstring) both dealing with injuries, the team needed to bring in an RB now.”

He later shared an encouraging update on Tracy’s condition, noting, “Tracy is participating in individual drills and looks fine, which is surprising given how he left the field on Tuesday.”

Although Duggan mentioned that Tracy might not play in the second preseason game due to a recent ankle sprain, he appears to be recovering well and has already engaged in limited practice.

In addition to Kelley, the Giants also signed defensive backs Raheem Layne and Jonathan Sutherland on August 15. They released veteran safety Jalen Mills, moved safety Elijah Riley to the reserve/injured list, and traded veteran defensive lineman Jordan Phillips.

Kelley, who has more NFL experience than most of the Giants’ running backs except starter Devin Singletary, spent his entire rookie contract with the Chargers, amassing 1,467 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns over four seasons. Despite a generally underwhelming performance in Los Angeles, Kelley had a career-high 405 rushing yards in 2023. He will turn 27 in November, and his extensive NFL tape may explain the delay in signing him this offseason.
