Breaking News: Two Giants starters at risk of losing their positions before the 2024 NFL season begins.

The New York Giants find themselves in a tough spot as a franchise. While Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have had ample time to shape the team’s roster, the Giants still seem to be spinning their wheels. Although several position groups have shown improvement in recent years, the quarterback situation remains a significant concern for Big Blue. This uncertainty has placed Schoen, Daboll, and other key figures within the organization under pressure as they approach a critical 2024 season.

However, there are signs of optimism. The Giants traded for star edge rusher Brian Burns this offseason, who is expected to form a formidable trio with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence. Additionally, the team bolstered its offense by selecting dynamic wide receiver Malik Nabers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

New York has finally begun stringing together strong draft classes, giving hope that the pieces might come together. Yet, if the Giants can’t produce a successful season in 2024, they may need to reevaluate their approach.

With competition fierce for final roster spots and starting positions, these two established Giants starters could be at risk of losing their places before the 2024 season kicks off.

Is Jermaine Eluemunor at risk of losing his starting position to Evan Neal?

The Giants were thrilled to sign Jermaine Eluemunor in free agency this spring, and he’s currently projected to be the Week 1 starter at right tackle. However, there’s a chance he could lose his spot to a fully healthy Evan Neal.

The main concern is whether Evan Neal will ever be fully healthy. Entering his third season, Neal is still recovering from an offseason ankle injury, raising doubts about his ability to play an entire season.

On a positive note, the Giants activated Neal from the PUP list earlier this week, signaling he’s back in the competition for the starting right tackle position.

If Neal can demonstrate the potential he showed as a first-round draft pick, he will likely earn a starting role, which could impact Eluemunor’s position. Should Neal start at right tackle, Eluemunor might shift to left guard, providing the Giants with strong starters at both positions—a luxury they haven’t enjoyed for some time.

A healthy Evan Neal could be a game-changer for the Giants’ offense, and they will be hoping he can stay fit and contribute throughout the 2024 season.

The Giants are keen for Tyler Nubin to secure the strong safety position, but the question remains whether he will be prepared to surpass Dane Belton for the role.

In the NFL, nothing is ever guaranteed—you have to earn everything on the field. This is especially true for Giants rookie Tyler Nubin.

Drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Nubin was selected with the clear intention of eventually replacing Xavier McKinney, who departed in free agency.

Nubin’s primary competition for the starting strong safety position will be third-year player Dane Belton.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Belton has primarily served as a backup in his first two seasons, never surpassing 400 total snaps in a year. Despite his experience and familiarity with the system giving him an edge, Nubin’s superior talent could lead him to claim the starting role during training camp and preseason.

Both players are expected to make the final 53-man roster, but the Week 1 starter will likely be determined by who performs better in coverage during camp. Even if Belton secures the starting spot initially, he will face significant pressure throughout the season with Nubin pushing for the position.
