The New York Giants bolstered their roster on Friday by signing versatile veteran Jakob Johnson to a contract. While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the addition of Johnson brings a blend of experience and flexibility to the Giants’ offensive lineup, as he can contribute both as a tight end and a fullback.
Johnson, 29, played in 13 games last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, starting five of them. The Stuttgart, Germany native has built a solid career since entering the NFL, amassing 19 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown over 67 games, including 34 starts. He began his NFL journey with the New England Patriots, where he played from 2019 to 2021 before joining the Raiders for the 2022-23 seasons.
In a corresponding move, the Giants waived/injured tight end Tyree Jackson. The team’s decision to bring in Johnson could be seen as a strategic move to add depth and versatility to their offensive scheme, especially given Johnson’s ability to contribute in multiple roles.
