Breaking News: Patriots Announce the Passing of Team Physician

On Sunday, the New England Patriots announced with deep sorrow the passing of team physician Dr. Mark Price. In a statement issued on behalf of owner Robert Kraft, the team extended their heartfelt condolences to Dr. Price’s family, friends, and colleagues.

The statement expressed, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Mark Price, a respected team physician who battled cancer with great courage. Dr. Price joined the Patriots as head team physician and medical director in 2016, bringing exceptional expertise and dedication. His work was crucial to the health and well-being of our players, and his commitment to excellence was evident throughout his tenure.

Dr. Price, born in 1952, earned his PhD from MIT in 2001 and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 2003. He was also a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves and received a Bronze Star Medal for his service in combat operations in Afghanistan.

Dr. Price served as the Patriots’ head physician and medical director from 2016 until he was succeeded by Dr. Scott Martin in 2022. During his seven-season tenure, he played a key role in the team’s two Super Bowl victories. Despite his transition, he remained a part of the team’s extended medical network.

In addition to his role with the Patriots, Dr. Price was a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine and an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School.
