Blockbuster Deal Shakes the NFL! Eagles Swipe Star WR From Commanders, Browns Kicker Joins the Chaos!
The Washington Commanders made a bold move on the trade front, sending wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round selections. The trade, announced on Tuesday, also included Washington dealing a conditional seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for kicker Cade York.
Dotson, the Commanders’ first-round pick in 2022, flashed promise during his two seasons in Washington. The 23-year-old wideout appeared in 29 games, starting 26 of them, and compiled 84 catches on 144 targets for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns. Dotson’s impressive route running and deep-threat ability made him a valuable asset for the Commanders, but with the team looking to reshape its roster, the trade marks a fresh start for both sides.
The Eagles, who have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL, will bolster their already talented receiving corps with Dotson’s skill set. Teaming up with star wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Dotson adds yet another dynamic playmaker to quarterback Jalen Hurts’ arsenal as the Eagles continue their pursuit of a deep playoff run.
In return, Washington adds valuable draft capital with the 2025 third-rounder and a pair of seventh-round picks. For a team undergoing significant changes in its front office and coaching staff, these picks provide flexibility for future roster building.
In addition to the Dotson deal, the Commanders addressed a glaring need at kicker by acquiring Cade York from the Cleveland Browns. York, a fourth-round pick by Cleveland in 2022, had an up-and-down rookie campaign. He appeared in all 17 games, converting 24-of-32 field goal attempts, including 4-of-7 from beyond 50 yards, with a career-long of 58 yards. York also hit on 94.6% of his extra point attempts.
After a rocky season, York found himself bouncing between practice squads with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants, before re-signing with the Browns in March. Now, with the Commanders, York will be looking to regain his form and stabilize the kicker position, which has been an area of concern for Washington.
The two trades underscore the Commanders’ ongoing efforts to retool and recalibrate their roster ahead of the 2024 season. As the team navigates these transitions, Dotson will now be looking to make his mark in Philadelphia, while York will aim to prove himself in Washington as both teams prepare for the season ahead.
