Heartbreak for Eagles: Star Tight End Back Out 6-8 Weeks After Surgery

On Wednesday morning, the Philadelphia Eagles issued their final injury report, and starting tight end Dallas Goedert stood out. Goedert was marked as a non-participant in that day’s practice due to an oblique injury.

Although Goedert has been fully involved in Eagles training camp all summer, he hasn’t played in the preseason, as head coach Nick Sirianni has chosen to sit his offensive starters.

Injuries have plagued Dallas Goedert throughout his six-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Last season, he was limited to 14 games due to a fractured forearm that needed surgery, and in 2022, he was placed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. Goedert has only played a full 16-game season once, during his rookie year in 2018.

Goedert’s absence from practice this week puts the spotlight on the Eagles’ tight end position. Grant Calcaterra, a former sixth-round pick, has consistently filled the No. 2 TE role during training camp. With the release of veteran C.J. Uzomah and Albert Okwuegbunam sidelined by an abdomen injury, rookie E.J. Jenkins, who has shone this summer, may stand to gain the most.

Jenkins impressed in the Eagles’ 14-13 preseason victory over the Patriots, playing 31 snaps and catching all five of his targets for 47 yards.

Currently, there is no indication that Goedert will miss the season opener against the Green Bay Packers on Friday, Sept. 6, in Brazil.
