With the Chicago Bears potentially missing Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) for Week 2, Collin Johnson has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Both Allen and Odunze did not practice this week and are listed as questionable for their Sunday Night Football game against the Houston Texans.
Matt Eberflus told ESPN’s Courtney Cronin that their availability will be determined on game day.
“We’ll evaluate them up to game time, possibly having them work out before the game to assess their condition,” Eberflus said. “That’s the plan for now.”
Odunze’s MCL sprain may be more severe, as he shared with Marquee Sports Network.
“As I move and bend my leg, I’m gaining confidence. I’ll keep working on it to hopefully be ready for Sunday,” Odunze said.
In Week 1, the Bears’ defense and special teams were crucial, each scoring a touchdown and compensating for a lackluster offensive performance. Having all their key players healthy would ease the burden on Caleb Williams.
Without Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, the Bears struggle with their offensive identity. Although Collin Johnson shows promise, his practice squad status indicates he’s not yet a top option. Despite having what could be one of the best wide receiver groups on paper, the Bears’ performance was hindered last week by a weak offensive line. They should focus on getting D’Andre Swift involved to add more depth to their offense and reduce the pressure on Williams.
