Cowboys Consider Signing Former Jets TE to Help Jake Ferguson Cowboys Consider Signing Former Jets TE to Bolster Depth Behind Ferguson
While Jake Ferguson’s future looks bright, the Dallas Cowboys could strengthen their tight end group by signing former New York Jets TE C.J. Uzomah. Despite a challenging offseason, Uzomah would be a solid addition to the Cowboys’ roster.
Although Jake Ferguson avoided serious injury in Week 1, it’s wise for Dallas to have backup options. Uzomah, recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles, brings 9 years of experience with 192 receptions, 1,891 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns.
The Cowboys’ tight end group lacks experience, with players like Luke Schoonmaker and Hunter Luepke still early in their careers. If Ferguson’s injury worsens, signing Uzomah could be a smart move for Dallas.
Despite the concerns, Ferguson provided a positive update after injuring his knee against the Cleveland Browns. He initially feared a serious ACL injury, but Ferguson told The Athletic’s Jon Machota that the pain has subsided, revealing it was just a minor bone bruise.
With Ferguson likely to stay on the field, the Cowboys might not need to explore free agency. However, Blogging the Boys writer Brian Martin suggests fullback Hunter Luepke could be used as a replacement if needed. Martin noted that Luepke played more snaps as a tight end than as a fullback in the Cleveland game, showing his versatility.
Fans may see more of Luepke in the coming weeks, but if Dallas does seek additional depth, Uzomah remains a reliable option.
