Jets Pass Rusher Reveals Devastating Injury Details, Season-Ending Blow

Johnson, 25, was projected to have a promising future in the NFL, but with his absence, the Jets will need to look elsewhere for solutions. Over his brief career, Johnson, who came from Florida State, amassed 10 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, and seven pass deflections, and was coming off a Pro Bowl season.

Replacing his contributions won’t be easy; it’s a challenge that will require a collective effort rather than relying on one individual. Head coach Robert Saleh emphasized this approach in his media session on September 16, noting the importance of a deep defensive line rotation and the classic “next man up” mentality.

With Johnson out, the Jets will rely on lesser-known players to fill the gap, including Micheal Clemons, Takk McKinley, Leonard Taylor III, Solomon Thomas, Eric Watts, and Braiden McGregor. This group consists of mid-round picks, undrafted free agents, and former first-round selections who have had varied careers.

While prominent players like Quinnen Williams and Will McDonald are well-known, they alone won’t be sufficient. Johnson’s absence is a blow, given his dual role in pass rushing and run defense, but the Jets’ coaching staff has a track record of overcoming such challenges. For example, in their Week 2 game against the Titans, despite missing three key defensive starters, the Jets’ defense was crucial in securing the victory.

The Jets will need to harness their ability to adapt and make the most of their current roster for the rest of the 2024 season.
