The Cleveland Browns are bracing for another tough outing this Sunday as they prepare to face the New York Giants without key players, including tight end David Njoku, who is expected to miss his second consecutive game. Njoku, who sustained an ankle injury during the season opener, will be sidelined once again, leaving the Browns’ offense to adjust in his absence.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed on Wednesday that Njoku’s return this week is highly unlikely. “I would say he’s unlikely this week,” Stefanski said, emphasizing the team’s cautious approach. Jordan Akins, who stepped in for Njoku against the Jacksonville Jaguars, struggled to make an impact with just one catch for 10 yards. Njoku, who led the Browns with 81 receptions and six touchdowns last season, remains a pivotal part of the offense. While he hasn’t been placed on injured reserve, his absence could extend into the following games against the Las Vegas Raiders or the Washington Commanders.

Njoku’s social media activity has fueled speculation about a potential early return. “Chop Wood,” Njoku posted, adding fuel to the hopes of fans eager to see him back on the field.

In addition to Njoku’s absence, the Browns are dealing with other significant injury concerns. Cornerback Denzel Ward, who played against Jacksonville, was limited to just 11 snaps due to a shoulder injury. Ward, a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the league’s top cornerbacks, has struggled with injuries throughout his career. He missed four games last season and has yet to complete a full season since joining the Browns. With Ward’s status uncertain, Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome are expected to take on increased responsibilities, with second-year cornerback Cameron Mitchell also seeing more action.

The defensive line also faces challenges, with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett battling a foot injury. Despite the discomfort, Garrett has managed to record a sack in each of the Browns’ first two games. “Didn’t feel great,” Garrett admitted after Sunday’s game. “Been battling it and there were some ups and downs with it. Sometimes it felt a little bit better, sometimes it felt a bit worse, but it’s part of the game.” Stefanski acknowledged Garrett’s resilience, noting that the star defensive end has a history of playing through injuries. “He plays through things, and he’ll just continue to get better and treat the injury,” Stefanski said.

With key players like Njoku, Ward, and Garrett dealing with injuries, the Browns will need to rely on their depth and adaptability as they prepare for a critical matchup against the Giants.
