Key 49ers Player Expected Back Soon
After a strong opening victory against the New York Jets, the San Francisco 49ers appeared poised to be serious Super Bowl contenders in the NFC, despite the absence of star running back Christian McCaffrey.
However, in Week 2, they suffered an unexpected loss to Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings.
The team has dealt with injuries since the start of the season, with McCaffrey’s absence being the most significant. Now, versatile wide receiver Deebo Samuel is doubtful for Week 3’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, who are seeking their first win after two losses.
Despite not being at full strength, the 49ers received some encouraging news with safety Talanoa Hufanga returning to practice and potentially available for the game against the Rams.
“He should get back this week if everything goes right,” said head coach Kyle Shanahan, according to NBC Sports Bay Area.
Although the Rams seem diminished from last season and are grappling with injuries to key wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, divisional games can be unpredictable. The 49ers are working to regain their strength, and having Hufanga back would be a significant boost as they prepare to face veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.
