Lions Key Player Out With Major Injury
Several starters for the Detroit Lions were listed on Wednesday’s injury report as they prepare for their Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 15.
On Wednesday, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, safeties Kerby Joseph and Ifeatu Melifonwu, and defensive end Marcus Davenport did not practice. Wide receiver Jameson Williams was limited due to an ankle injury.
Sewell missed practice as a precaution for his ankle injury but is expected to play on Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Davenport is nursing a groin injury but is anticipated to return to practice later this week. Joseph’s status is less clear, as he warmed up but then went back to the locker room without participating, with few details available on his hamstring issue.
The full injury report shows Penei Sewell (ankle), Marcus Davenport (groin), Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), and Kerby Joseph (hamstring) as nonparticipants. Jameson Williams was limited in practice, while Carlton Davis (chest), DJ Reader (quad), and Loren Strickland (thumb) were full participants.
Reader and Strickland missed Week 1 and are set to make their season debuts in Week 2 against the Buccaneers.
Despite his injury, Jameson Williams, who had a standout performance in Week 1 with five receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown, is expected to participate in practice this week. He’ll take a cautious approach to ensure he is fully ready for the game. Keep an eye out for updates on his status as the week progresses.
