Raiders Loss Key Player Ahead In Week 4 Stand Off

Another week, another disappointing outcome for the Cleveland Browns, who remain stuck with just one win after four weeks of the 2024 NFL regular season, following a frustrating 20-16 defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Entering the game, the Browns were already hampered by several inactive players, particularly on the offensive side. To make matters worse, cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. appeared to sustain an upper-body injury in the fourth quarter. Following the loss, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Emerson had entered the concussion protocol, as reported by Browns writer Kelsey Russo.

Emerson’s performance was subpar, with Pro Football Focus rating him at just 37.1 for the game, marking his worst outing of the season. He struggled in coverage, earning a low 29.3 rating as Raiders receivers managed to complete 75% of their passes against him. Overall, Emerson has received a disappointing 38.1 rating from PFF this season, along with a mere 34.7 coverage grade.

Despite his struggles, the Browns are hopeful for a quick recovery for Emerson. Looking ahead, they face two challenging road games against the rising Washington Commanders in Week 5, followed by a matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts in Week 6.

The Browns’ woes in the loss to the Raiders extended beyond Emerson’s performance. After building a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, they were unable to find the end zone again until early in the fourth quarter. The defense faltered, allowing 268 total yards and two red-zone conversions to Las Vegas.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson managed only 176 passing yards, along with a touchdown and an interception, while being sacked three times for a loss of 27 yards. An injury-plagued offensive line has further complicated matters for Watson and the Browns, who also struggled to establish the run with just 92 rushing yards on 22 attempts.
