Tyler Brooke of 33rd Team highlighted Reed’s impressive start in his second NFL season, dubbing him the league’s “next star slot receiver.”
Brooke’s analysis shines a spotlight on Reed’s early impact, stating, “It’s only his second NFL season, but Jayden Reed already looks like one of the best slots in the league. His impact is felt all over the field, with the analytics and film showing he’s already established himself as a top-tier slot receiver.”
Jayden Reed Rises Among NFL’s Elite Slot Receivers
Through four games this season, Reed has racked up 427 total scrimmage yards, placing him second in the NFL. His stats are a testament to his versatility and ability to make plays, as he’s hauled in 17 receptions for 336 yards and 2 touchdowns while also contributing 91 rushing yards and an additional score on six carries.
According to Justis Mosqueda of SB Nation’s Acme Packing Co., Reed stands atop the league in both adjusted yards and adjusted yards per route run as a slot receiver. “No matter how you slice it, Reed is the most valuable slot receiver in the NFL right now,” Mosqueda reported.
What makes Reed even more of a gem for the Packers is his contract. Selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Reed is in just the second year of his rookie deal—a four-year, $7.2 million bargain for a player quickly proving to be an elite talent.
Reed’s Role to Expand Amid Packers’ Injuries
With quarterback Jordan Love now fully healthy, the Packers have even more reason to lean on Reed’s dynamic skill set. This reliance could increase as wide receiver Christian Watson deals with an ankle sprain, potentially sidelining him for multiple games.
However, Reed hasn’t been used as much in two-receiver sets, which may limit his role when the Packers aren’t running their typical three-wide formations. Still, as Watson’s injury history continues to be a concern, Reed’s versatility becomes even more crucial to the Packers’ offensive success.
While some pundits have speculated about the possibility of Green Bay trading for Raiders’ star wideout Davante Adams, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes the Packers are committed to their youth movement. Barnwell commented, “The Packers have deliberately chosen to go younger across the board and field the youngest team in football… I believe they see the variety of options they present Jordan Love in lieu of a top wide receiver as a strength of their roster.”
