The Philadelphia Eagles have kicked off the 2024 NFL season with a 2-2 record, positioning themselves as a playoff contender in the NFC. However, despite their potential, there are glaring areas in need of improvement if they hope to take the next step toward a legitimate Super Bowl run—chief among them is their pass rush.
The Eagles’ defense has struggled to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks, and to make a deep postseason push, they’ll need to address this deficiency. Recently, CBS Sports proposed an intriguing trade scenario that could help Philadelphia solve this issue.
Eagles Linked to Trade for Buffalo’s Von Miller
CBS Sports suggested that the Eagles explore a trade for veteran pass-rusher Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Although Miller is currently serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, he would be eligible to return in Week 8, potentially giving the Eagles a much-needed boost on defense.
“The Eagles probably shouldn’t be in the business of adding aging defenders,” CBS Sports noted. “But they badly need a pass rush, and Miller, though suspended until Week 8, was a Pro Bowler under Vic Fangio in Denver.”
Miller, 35, has shown he still has plenty left in the tank. Before his suspension, he played four games for Buffalo, recording five tackles and three sacks. His experience and ability to disrupt the pocket would add another dimension to Philadelphia’s defensive front.
Why Miller Makes Sense for the Eagles
While Miller is in the twilight of his career, his championship pedigree and ability to perform in high-pressure situations make him an attractive trade target. For the Eagles, who are in “win-now” mode, the addition of a proven pass-rusher like Miller could help solidify their defense and elevate them from playoff contender to Super Bowl threat.
Though Miller could remain with the Bills and continue his pursuit of another ring, a trade to Philadelphia would also give him a strong chance to compete for a title this season.
Other Options on the Table
While Von Miller is an exciting prospect, the Eagles could pursue other options to address their pass-rushing needs. There are several pass-rushers across the league who could provide an immediate impact, but a trade for Miller may offer the most value for a lower cost.
