“Former First-Round Pick Emerges as Bold Trade Target for Phillies’ Championship Push!”
The Phillies could explore trading some of their young Major League talent to fill key gaps, particularly in the outfield. One player who could be a potential target is Taylor Ward.
Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors pointed out Ward as a possible trade candidate, especially as the Los Angeles Angels seek to rebuild after Shohei Ohtani’s departure. Franco noted that the Phillies, with their need for corner outfielders, could be a good fit for Ward.
Franco mentions, “Pittsburgh and Kansas City could renew their interest … The Reds, Phillies, Braves, Blue Jays, and Padres are other teams that could look for corner outfield help this winter.”
Ward would bring versatility, likely shifting Brandon Marsh to center field and putting Ward in left, with Johan Rojas possibly moving to a platoon role unless he’s part of a trade package to the Angels.
As a former first-round pick, Ward has become a reliable hitter since becoming a full-time player. He’s coming off a strong season, slashing .246/.323/.426 with 25 home runs and 75 RBI, despite a lackluster lineup around him.
At 30 years old and under team control through 2026, Ward could provide a boost to a Phillies outfield that struggled with consistency throughout the season and playoffs. The Phillies also have a history of making deals with the Angels, such as the acquisitions of Marsh and Carlos Estevez last season.
Ward is a name to watch as the offseason progresses.
