Willy Adames Set for $200 Million……
Milwaukee Brewers’ impending free agent Willy Adames is set to command a massive contract this offseason. It’s anticipated that the Brewers will be outbid beyond their comfortable price range, meaning Adames is likely to wear a new uniform next season. According to a recent MLB insider, his price tag could exceed $200 million, with a possible position change also on the horizon.
In recent years, shortstops have signed huge contracts, with players like Corey Seager, Trea Turner, and Francisco Lindor all securing $300 million deals. Additionally, Xander Bogaerts signed for $280 million, Dansby Swanson for $177 million, and both Javier Baez and Trevor Story for $140 million. Adames is expected to join this elite group, with Jon Heyman predicting his contract will surpass $200 million.
In his Friday notes, Heyman also mentioned that Adames might switch to third base. Although he is the top shortstop available in free agency, a position change could widen the pool of potential suitors. Heyman specifically pointed to the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets as teams that could be interested in Adames as a third baseman. Mets president David Stearns, who originally acquired Adames for Milwaukee, could potentially bring him in to play third base, possibly moving Mark Vientos to first if Pete Alonso departs.
MLB free agency opens the day after the World Series ends, giving the Brewers the first five days to negotiate exclusively with Adames. If no deal is reached, he will be free to negotiate with other teams.
