Veteran WR Signs with Lions for Another Stint in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions are bolstering their practice squad with a familiar face, signing veteran wide receiver Maurice Alexander, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. Alexander, who has limited NFL game experience, has spent significant time on the Lions’ practice squad and will take the spot of undrafted rookie Isaiah Williams, who was waived earlier this month.

Alexander first joined the Lions in 2022 after a standout season with the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars. He appeared in four games for Detroit that year, primarily as a kick returner. The 27-year-old spent the 2023 season on the practice squad and returned for training camp this year but was waived before the final roster cuts. Williams, an undrafted rookie who impressed during the preseason, was given a spot on the active roster but struggled to see much playing time, eventually being waived and claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Meanwhile, the Lions’ wide receiver group has received a boost from the return of third-year player Jameson Williams, who came back from a two-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Williams made an immediate impact in Detroit’s 26-23 win over the Houston Texans, catching three passes for 53 yards. The former first-round pick has reflected on his time away, emphasizing the lessons learned and his commitment to moving forward.

Head coach Dan Campbell has been supportive of Williams through his suspension and other challenges, expressing confidence in the young receiver’s growth. “I think he’ll learn from it, and I believe he’ll come out of this on top,” Campbell said.
