The Indianapolis Colts made a notable move on Tuesday, adding veteran offensive lineman Mark Glowinski to their practice squad while releasing cornerback Tre Flowers from the same unit. This transaction highlights the Colts’ ongoing efforts to strengthen their depth, with Glowinski bringing valuable experience to the offensive line and Flowers being let go after a short stint with the team.

Mark Glowinski Returns to Indianapolis

Glowinski, 31, is a familiar face in Indianapolis, having spent the first five seasons of his career with the Colts from 2017 to 2021. Standing at 6-4 and weighing 310 pounds, Glowinski has carved out a productive NFL career as a durable and versatile guard. After leaving Indianapolis for the New York Giants in 2022, Glowinski continued to play as a starting lineman, bringing his considerable experience to the Giants for two seasons.

In total, Glowinski has played in 124 career games with 96 starts, including seven postseason appearances. He was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and spent his first three years in the NFL with Seattle before joining the Colts. His solid play over the years has earned him a reputation as a reliable starter, especially in the trenches. Now back in Indianapolis, Glowinski will provide depth and leadership on an offensive line that has struggled with injuries and inconsistency this season.

The Release of Tre Flowers

On the flip side, the Colts decided to part ways with cornerback Tre Flowers, who was signed to the practice squad just a few weeks ago on October 29. Flowers, 26, has had a journeyman career since being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The 6-3, 200-pound defensive back has appeared in 94 career games, with 44 starts, across stints with the Seahawks, Bengals, Falcons, Jaguars, and most recently the Colts.

Flowers has accumulated impressive career stats, including 270 tackles (211 solo), 22 passes defensed, four interceptions, five forced fumbles, and 16 special teams stops. He has also played in 10 postseason games, including three starts, adding 20 tackles and five special teams stops in playoff action. While Flowers has shown flashes of ability throughout his career, his time in Indianapolis was short-lived, as the team likely sought to make room for other defensive or special teams priorities.

The Colts’ Roster Moves

Glowinski’s signing to the practice squad could signal a potential promotion to the active roster, depending on injuries or the team’s need for depth on the offensive line. With the Colts continuing to manage injuries up front, having a veteran like Glowinski in the fold provides some stability and experience as they work through the challenges of the remainder of the season.

As for Flowers, his departure from the practice squad marks the end of a brief chapter with the Colts. The decision to release Flowers could reflect the Colts’ shifting priorities, whether it’s to make room for other players on the roster or to focus on a different direction with their defensive backfield. Flowers, however, remains a talented and experienced player, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him land with another team that can use his depth and special teams contributions.

Looking Ahead

For the Colts, these moves are part of the larger puzzle as they look to fine-tune their roster for the stretch run of the 2024 season. While Glowinski’s return adds veteran depth to the offensive line, the team will also continue evaluating its defensive backfield and special teams as they navigate the challenges of a competitive AFC South.

The decision to move on from Flowers and bring back Glowinski signals a clear focus on improving depth in the trenches, an area where the Colts have faced injuries and inconsistency. With the 2024 season still very much in play, these roster adjustments could be key in helping the Colts position themselves for a postseason push.

As always in the NFL, the landscape can change quickly, and it will be interesting to see how these moves impact both the immediate future of the Colts and the career paths of Glowinski and Flowers in the coming weeks.
