The Seattle Seahawks have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, the team announced on Wednesday as part of a series of roster moves. Plumlee was recently released from the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ practice squad on November 12.
Originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of UCF, Plumlee was promised a chance to play quarterback, but his role expanded during training camp. In addition to taking snaps at quarterback, he also worked as a kick returner and even saw time as a wide receiver.
After being cut by Pittsburgh during the final roster cuts, Plumlee had multiple options but chose to sign with Jacksonville, where he continued to work exclusively as a quarterback. Despite the potential for a position switch in the future, Plumlee remains focused on proving himself as a quarterback before considering a move to another role, similar to the career paths of players like Julian Edelman. He’s determined to get a shot at quarterback in a regular-season game before making any final decisions about switching positions.
