The Green Bay Packers are bolstering their offensive line depth as they prepare for the final stretch of the 2024 season. On December 9, the team announced the signing of former New England Patriots guard Michael Jordan to their practice squad. In a corresponding move, rookie offensive tackle Spencer Rolland was released.
Jordan, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, started 11 games for the Patriots at left guard this season. However, his performance led to a demotion to the practice squad in late November, followed by his release. He allowed three sacks and 23 pressures on 441 pass-blocking snaps and was rated among the worst in the league for run-blocking. Despite this, the 26-year-old has 40 career starts and 67 game appearances, which could be valuable to the Packers as they push for a playoff spot.
Jordan is the second guard added to the Packers’ practice squad in the last two weeks, following the addition of Marquis Hayes on November 30. The Packers (9-4) will face the Seattle Seahawks (8-5) in a Sunday Night Football game on December 15 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
Additionally, the Packers could be getting a boost from the return of Jordan Morgan, a 2024 first-round pick who is eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 15. Morgan has missed seven games due to a shoulder injury but could begin practicing with the team if cleared by medical staff. His return would provide significant depth to the Packers’ offensive line. Tight end Luke Musgrave, also eligible to return, has been sidelined since October 10 with an ankle injury and could rejoin practice if he is deemed healthy enough.
Head coach Matt LaFleur provided updates on other injuries, including rookie safety Javon Bullard, who is “week-to-week” with an ankle injury, and fellow rookies Evan Williams and wide receiver Romeo Doubs, both still in concussion protocol. Doubs has missed the past two games and is entering his third week in the protocol.
The Packers will provide more updates on player injuries after their first practice of Week 15 on December 11.
