When the 2024 offseason began, it was evident that the Miami Dolphins were making moves that would upset fans—and as the season went on, that proved true.
Throughout the season, fans quickly criticized the Dolphins for their handling of former linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, especially after his Pro Bowl selection, which became a major point of contention.
Van Ginkel wasn’t the only former Dolphins player making waves. As Miami continued to struggle with offensive line issues, former guard Robert Hunt, who started every game for the Carolina Panthers, went penalty-free for the first 16 weeks of the season. Meanwhile, in Miami…
But not all of the Dolphins’ former players from 2023 enjoyed successful seasons.
Christian Wilkins’ absence wasn’t felt as much as anticipated.
Christian Wilkins’ debut season with the Las Vegas Raiders started off strong but ended abruptly when a foot injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Despite the Raiders’ significant investment in Wilkins, they saw minimal return in his first season. In contrast, the Dolphins shifted their focus to Zach Sieler, who turned in a performance worthy of a Pro Bowl spot. The addition of veteran Calais Campbell helped offset Wilkins’ departure, making Miami’s decision to move on from him look like a smart one in retrospect.
Jerome Baker gave his all in Miami, but couldn’t find success with the Seahawks.
Jerome Baker was one of the few Dolphins draft picks to earn a second contract, but he never reached elite status despite his hard work. As Anthony Weaver took over, Baker’s role in Miami diminished. He later joined the Seattle Seahawks but couldn’t make an impact. After a brief stint, he was traded to the Tennessee Titans before the deadline.
The loss of Connor Williams was thought to be a major blow for Chris Grier.
The Dolphins needed a new center after Aaron Brewer’s injury, and while Connor Williams was recovering from his own injury, he joined the Seahawks as a starter. However, things didn’t go as planned. In November, Williams shocked the football world by announcing his retirement from the NFL at just 27 years old, citing personal reasons after undergoing major surgery.
