Rams crush Vikings, send them packing.

The Los Angeles Rams delivered a stunning performance on Monday night, overpowering the Minnesota Vikings 27-9 in an NFC wild-card game that was moved to State Farm Stadium in Phoenix due to devastating wildfires in Southern California. The Rams (11-7) set the tone early, sacking Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold an NFL playoff record-tying nine times, and never looked back in their comfortable victory.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes, leading the offense with precision and control. Stafford was nearly flawless, completing his first 10 passes, including all six on the opening touchdown drive. His connection with tight end Davis Allen in the final seconds of the first half gave the Rams a commanding 24-3 lead.

However, it was the Rams’ defense that truly set the game apart. Rookie defensive lineman Jared Verse made an impact, returning a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown after Darnold was hit by cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. The fumble recovery sent the Rams’ fans into a frenzy, as approximately 45,000 supporters traveled from California to fill the stadium.

Minnesota (14-4) had no answers for the Rams’ aggressive defense. Darnold, making his first NFL playoff appearance, was under constant pressure throughout the game. He was sacked five times in the first half and threw an interception to Rams cornerback Cobie Durant. His struggles raised questions about his future with the team, particularly after a rough finish to the regular season.

The Rams’ defense kept Minnesota at bay, and they never allowed the Vikings to threaten a comeback. After Stafford’s touchdown pass to Allen, kicker Joshua Karty added a 44-yard field goal in the second half to make it 27-3, sealing the victory for Los Angeles.

Despite completing 25 of 40 passes for 245 yards, Darnold’s performance was marred by the constant pressure, as he lost 82 yards on the nine sacks. The Vikings, who had hoped to secure the NFC‘s top seed, now face an uncertain future, while the Rams look forward to the next round of the playoffs with confidence.
