Steelers Bolster Secondary with Cameron McCutcheon Signing

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to prepare for the future, announcing the signing of defensive back Cameron McCutcheon to a Reserve/Future contract on Tuesday.

McCutcheon, a former undrafted free agent, originally joined the Los Angeles Rams following the 2023 NFL Draft. He has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Rams, developing his skills and gaining experience in a competitive NFL environment.

The Western Carolina product made a name for himself at the collegiate level, appearing in 22 games over two seasons. McCutcheon showcased his versatility and defensive acumen during his time with the Catamounts, amassing 79 tackles, including 48 solo stops. He also recorded four and a half tackles for loss, eight passes defensed, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

His well-rounded skill set caught the attention of NFL scouts, particularly his ability to contribute both in coverage and against the run. While his path to consistent playing time in the pros has been unconventional, McCutcheon now has an opportunity to compete for a spot on the Steelers’ roster heading into the offseason.

Pittsburgh’s decision to bring in McCutcheon reflects their ongoing commitment to building depth and competition in their secondary. The Reserve/Future contract allows the team to retain his rights through the offseason and gives him a chance to make an impression during training camp.

As the Steelers look to fine-tune their defense, McCutcheon will aim to carve out a role for himself on special teams or as a depth option in the defensive backfield. His signing is yet another move by Pittsburgh to ensure they have a well-stocked roster heading into the 2025 season.

Fans will keep a close eye on McCutcheon’s progress as he transitions from a promising undrafted prospect to a potential contributor in the black and gold.
