The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday night, leading 24-0 at halftime, which marked the second-largest Super Bowl halftime lead in history. While many contributed to the win, the Eagles’ defense was especially dominant, forcing three turnovers and sacking Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes a career-high six times. Although quarterback Jalen Hurts earned the Super Bowl MVP after completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, three touchdowns, and 72 rushing yards, defensive standout Josh Sweat believed he deserved the award. Despite this, Sweat expressed no hard feelings, saying, “I should’ve had it. It’s all good, though.”
Sweat, who restructured his contract with a pay cut last offseason, is entering free agency after a breakout season. In the Super Bowl, he recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss. His relentless pressure on Mahomes helped lead to both of the quarterback’s interceptions. Sweat finished the season with eight sacks and helped anchor one of the league’s top defenses.
