J.K. Dobbins #27 of the Los Angeles Chargers
Former Ohio State Star J.K. Dobbins Set to Test Free Agency, Could Steelers Be a Fit?

Among the many Ohio State Buckeyes making their mark in the NFL, running back J.K. Dobbins often flies under the radar. However, after a strong 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Dobbins is set to hit free agency and could be in line for a fresh start.
Dobbins has battled injuries throughout his career, but he finally put together a healthy campaign in 2024. Appearing in 13 games, he racked up 905 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 195 carries, averaging an impressive 4.6 yards per attempt. He also contributed in the passing game, hauling in 32 receptions for 153 yards.
Now, the former Buckeye standout is looking to cash in on free agency. While a return to Los Angeles remains possible, multiple teams are expected to have interest in adding a dynamic running back to their roster.
One intriguing potential landing spot? The Pittsburgh Steelers. Grant Podell of CBS Sports has linked Dobbins to Pittsburgh, where he could fill a key role in the backfield.
The Steelers’ running back situation remains uncertain heading into the offseason, as both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are set to become free agents. While Pittsburgh could re-sign one or both backs, there’s a strong chance the team will need another reliable option. Dobbins, who wouldn’t command a massive contract, could step in as a cost-effective yet high-upside solution.
If Harris departs, Dobbins could even emerge as the Steelers’ lead back, forming a one-two punch with Warren or another addition. Given his ability to produce when healthy, Pittsburgh might view him as a strong candidate to revitalize its rushing attack.
For Ohio State fans, the hope is that Dobbins continues his resurgence and re-establishes himself as a top-tier NFL running back. If he can stay on the field, he has the potential to be a consistent 1,000-yard rusher and a key piece for whichever team secures his services in free agency.
