Jets Face Uncertainty at Backup Quarterback Spot
Jets’ Quarterback Room Faces Questions Beyond Justin Fields

The New York Jets have their starting quarterback situation locked in for 2025. After signing a two-year, $40 million deal, Justin Fields is set to lead the offense, barring any unforeseen injuries. However, the bigger question now is what the rest of the quarterback depth chart will look like.
Currently, the Jets have veteran Tyrod Taylor, second-year quarterback Jordan Travis, and Adrian Martinez on the roster. Taylor, with his extensive experience as both a starter and backup in the NFL, is widely expected to serve as Fields’ primary backup. But beyond that, uncertainty looms, particularly regarding Travis’ health and future.
Travis, a dynamic playmaker at Florida State, was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, his collegiate career was cut short by a severe ankle injury, and he spent his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football injury list. His ability to return to full strength remains a significant question mark heading into 2025.
When asked about Travis’ progress, new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn didn’t provide much clarity.
“I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell you [his progress],” Glenn said, per The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt. “If he’s ready to play, he’s going to compete. From his days in college, he was a pretty damn good player. Once he gets a chance to compete, he’ll compete.”
With uncertainty surrounding Travis’ health, speculation has grown about the Jets potentially adding another quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. While that remains a possibility, the team does have a young option already in place in Travis, should he be able to get back on the field.
For now, all eyes remain on Fields as he prepares to lead the Jets, but the battle for the QB2 and QB3 spots could prove just as intriguing as the offseason unfolds.
