Vikings will receive two third-round compensatory picks in the 2025 draft.

It’s possible that the Minnesota Vikings could have three third-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. This potential scenario arises from compensatory picks they may receive after Kirk Cousins, Danielle Hunter, and K.J. Osborn signed with new teams as free agents.

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah expressed his expectation of receiving at least one third-round compensatory pick, if not more, during an interview on KFAN radio. Currently, it appears the Vikings will indeed receive two third-round compensatory picks, as they have lost six compensatory free agents (CFAs) from last year’s roster while signing only four CFAs.

The formula for determining the round of compensatory picks is complex, considering factors like contract value and player performance. Cousins and Hunter, being in the elite level of both, are expected to result in the Vikings receiving third-round compensatory picks for their departures.

This would give the Vikings three third-round picks in 2025, including their own selection. The team could potentially receive more compensatory picks if additional CFAs sign contracts worth at least $3 million annually. However, any further signings by the Vikings could offset these potential compensatory picks.

In any case, it seems the Vikings are well-equipped with five picks in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, providing them with ample opportunity to strengthen their roster.
