Key injury worries for the Cincinnati Reds as they approach the 2024 MLB season.

Wednesday brought a series of setbacks for the promising Cincinnati Reds as they prepare for the anticipated 2024 MLB season. The day began with news that Matt McLain, a former top-four prospect, is seeking a second opinion on a left shoulder injury. Reds manager David Bell confirmed that McLain will be sidelined at least for the Opening Day matchup against the Washington Nationals.

Adding to the team’s woes, the Reds received more unfortunate news regarding their No. 3 prospect, shortstop Edwin Arroyo. Arroyo is set to miss the entirety of the 2024 season due to left shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Of the two injuries, McLain’s absence will have a more immediate impact on the Reds’ major league roster. The infielder had an impressive rookie season, batting .290 with 16 home runs, 50 RBIs, and an .864 OPS, which earned him a fifth-place finish in the National League Rookie of the Year voting last season.
