Jerod Mayo Unveils Patriots’ Key Focus for 2024 NFL Draft.

Jerod Mayo and the Patriots have a clear focal point heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. New England is in need of a quarterback, and the organization has the opportunity to secure a potentially exceptional one with its highest draft pick in over three decades.

While Mayo acknowledges the favorable circumstances for the Patriots to target their next franchise quarterback with the third overall pick, he emphasizes that New England’s plans remain flexible.

“It’s the top priority right now,” Mayo stated to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche on Sunday regarding the Patriots’ quarterback aspirations. “But at the same time, you have to genuinely believe in the player to select him at No. 3. So, all possibilities are still on the table for us.”

Mayo’s emphasis on having genuine belief in the player is crucial, particularly since reports suggest that the Patriots are not enthusiastic about North Carolina prospect Drake Maye. Moreover, if Jayden Daniels, reportedly the frontrunner to be selected second overall, is chosen by the Washington Commanders, it could pose a challenge for New England.

This could be one reason why Mayo informed Wyche that the Patriots are not firmly committed to selecting a quarterback at No. 3. Besides recognizing the uncertainty surrounding the draft’s initial stages, Mayo may anticipate that New England will receive substantial trade proposals for the third overall pick.
