According to ESPN insider Rich Cimini, teams are reluctant to engage due to Wilson’s hefty fully-guaranteed $5.5 million salary and his inconsistent performance record, as noted by Dov Kleiman. Cimini suggests Wilson might prefer a release to seek new opportunities without financial constraints, questioning how long the Jets will persist in seeking a trade.

Despite occasional flashes of promise and his collegiate success at BYU, Wilson has yet to demonstrate the consistent performance or development expected of a second overall pick. Consequently, the Jets have moved on, signing Tyrod Taylor as Aaron Rodgers’ backup.
